Windows Shortcut Keys

While using computers it is good to know some important shortcut keys to open something quickly with doing a lot of clicks or anything else. Here are some helpful shortcut keys for Windows users:

Windows Shortcut Keys

1. F1 -> Opens help and support. It works for windows as well as in most of the applications.

2. F3 ->  Opens search box.

3. F5 -> Refresh in windows or in webpages etc.

4. Windows Button + D -> Minimize all windows(active or non-active).

5. Windows Button + E -> Opens My Computer.

6. Windows Button + R -> Opens Run, in which you can write the name of any installed application or give its location to open it. For eg.-> cmd for Command Prompt, notepad to open Notepad etc.

7. Windows Button + Tab -> Lets you to toggle between the open windows in a 3D mode in Windows Vista and later.

8. Alt + Tab -> Lets you to toggle between windows in every Windows.

9. Ctrl + Esc -> Open Start.


10. Alt + Space -> Open options in the upper left to minimize, maximize, restore, close etc.To use it in a window, just Press Alt + Space and then release them and then Press X to Maximize, N to Minimize, R to Restore original size or C to Close that window.


11. Alt + F4 -> Close the current active window.


12. Ctrl + W -> Used in Applications having multiple tabs to close the current active tab. Useful in web browsers, microsoft word, microsoft excel etc.


13. Ctrl + Tab -> Go to next tab to the current active tab.


14. Ctrl + Shift + Tab -> Go to previous tab to the current active tab.

15. Ctrl + C -> Copy a file or a folder.


16. Ctrl + X -> Cut a file or a folder.


17. Ctrl + V -> Paste the Copied or Cut files or folder.


18. Ctrl + Click -> If you want to make selection of some particular folder from a lot of folder, hold Ctrl and then Click on the folders or files one by one that you want to select.

19. Ctrl + Alt + Delete -> Open Task Manager.


Shotcut Keys For Most Text Editors:

1. Ctrl + A -> Select the whole text.


2. Shift + Arrow Key -> Used to select the text in the direction of the arrow key you pressed.


3. Ctrl + C -> Copy the selected text.

4. Ctrl + X -> Cut the selected text.


5. Ctrl + V -> Paste the Copied or Cut text.


6. Ctrl + Z -> Undo the recently done steps. In some text editors it can undo only one step but in some number of steps to undo are more.


7. Ctrl + U -> Underline the selected text.


8. Ctrl + B -> Make selected text Bold.


9. Ctrl + I -> Make selected text Italic.


10. Home -> Go to starting of a line.


11. End -> Go to end of line.


12. Shift + Home -> Selects the text from the cursor position to the starting of the line.


13. Shift + End -> Selects the text from the cursor position to the end of the line.


14. Ctrl + Right or Left Arrow Key -> Move the cursor to the to starting of each word.


15. Ctrl + S -> Save the active document.


16. Ctrl + P -> Print the active document.
